How to replace a hard drive holder, If you bought a new hard drive and you want to install it but the new hard drive does not have a holder, you can easily remove the holder parts from the old or faulty hard drive you intend to replace. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. For how to replace a hard drive holder, follow these steps.
- Unplug the AC adapter, if the laptop is connected to power supply.
- Turn the laptop and remove the battery pack.
- Slide the holder out of the laptop
- Remove the 3 or 4 screws from the sides of the holder securing the hard drive case to the holder.
- Pull the drive out of the holder.
- If you look closely, you will notice that the hard drive has a pin connector attachment at one end. Carefully remove this connector from the end of the drive. Do this carefully to avoid bending the connector pins
- With the old or faulty hard drive now detached from the holder, take the new hard drive and put back the pin connector attachment.
- Carefully put the pin connector attachment back onto the pins on the end of the new hard drive. Do this with some care to avoid bending the connector pins.
- Insert the hard drive into the holder.
- Reinstall the screws into the holder and drive case.
- Slide or push the hard drive holder into the laptop.
