How to replace a hard drive, you will need a small Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. A hard drive is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving information digitally, it makes use of rapidly rotating disks called platters, which are coated with magnetic material. A hard drive is able to retain its data even when it is powered off. To replace a faulty hard drive, follow these steps.
- Unplug the AC adapter, if the laptop is connected to power supply.
- Remove the screws securing the hard drive holder to the laptop.
- Slide the holder out of the laptop
- Remove the hard drive from the holder.

- Use a screwdriver to remove the 2 or 3 screws securing the hard drive to the holder.
- Gently pull the hard drive out of the hard drive holder and also remove the pin connector attachment at one end of the drive
- Pick up the new hard drive and commence the process of installing.
- Carefully slide the new drive into the hard drive compartment or hard drive holder.
- Re-attach the pin connector attachment, press firmly and carefully to make sure the connector seats properly.
- Tighten the hard drive screws.
- Slide or push the holder back into the laptop and tighten its screws to the laptop. .
Note: If you are installing a new hard drive, you should create a Utility partition on the drive before loading any software.
